The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), has urged all Ghanaians to put aside political, tribal, and religious differences and rally behind President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his incoming administration to foster the socioeconomic growth needed to instill confidence in citizens and investors.
In a congratulatory message signed by the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Agbeko (Rtd), the EPCG emphasized the need for unity, patriotism, and sensitivity to uphold Ghana’s longstanding peace and stable democratic values.
The church pledged its unwavering support to Mr. Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in areas such as education, health, agriculture, social advocacy, environmental and climate issues, and intercessory prayer.
The EPCG also praised the Vice-President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his maturity and statesmanship in promptly conceding defeat and congratulating Mr. Mahama. The church acknowledged this gesture as critical in diffusing tension and preventing potential unrest in the aftermath of the elections.
Additionally, the church extended congratulations to NDC parliamentary candidates who won their seats, commending all political parties, candidates, and their supporters for their roles in ensuring a peaceful election.
The EPCG expressed gratitude to the media, local and international observers, the National Peace Council, the National Commission for Civic Education, security agencies, the Electoral Commission, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the successful conduct of the elections.
The church reaffirmed its mission of “bringing light to where there is darkness” and its commitment to partnering with the new government to promote national development and peace.
