Light The World 2024 Initiative Brings Hope to Western and Greater Accra Regions

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has once again demonstrated its commitment to service through its #LightTheWorld campaign, bringing joy and support to nearly 2,000 households in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region and the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.

This year’s initiative in Sekondi-Takoradi was themed “Let Your Light Shine,” and, as in previous years, focused on spreading festive joy by distributing essential food items to families in need. Over 600 households in the Western Region benefited from care packages containing vital staples such as 5KG of rice, canned foods, frozen chickens, cooking oil, beans, sugar, garri, and millet, designed to support families during the holiday season.

Elder Isaac K. Morrison, 2nd Counselor of the Africa West Area Presidency for the Church, highlighted that since its launch in 2016, the #LightTheWorld campaign has become a significant annual event, uniting communities to alleviate burdens and celebrate the teachings of Jesus Christ. He emphasized that the initiative’s goal is to foster kindness and harmony, focusing this year on promoting love for neighbors.

Working in collaboration with Church and community leaders, beneficiaries were selected in partnership with Takoradi Social Welfare, and included residents of the home for the elderly and individuals with special needs.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Area, praised the Church for its commitment to spreading Christ’s love, underscoring the importance of kindness and love toward one another every day. Imam Muhammad Awal of Takoradi also expressed his appreciation, stating that acts of kindness transcend religious boundaries and create unity in supporting those in need.

In the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality, over 480 households received assistance as part of the initiative. Alexander Ansong, First Counsellor for the Church in Madina, reiterated the Church’s mission of spreading Christ’s love, saying, “Each year, the Church donates to our community through the ‘Light the World’ programme. During this festive season, we aim to share His love with everyone.”

The Light The World campaign, which is celebrated worldwide, benefits all individuals regardless of their religious affiliation. It reflects the Christian teaching of caring for the needy and vulnerable.

Benjamin Beeson, Mission Leader for the Ghana Accra East Mission of the Church, reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to emulating Jesus Christ’s generosity through charitable acts, emphasizing that the Church strives to follow His example of kindness.

The campaign also includes the ‘25 Ways in 25 Days’ initiative, encouraging individuals to perform acts of service each day from December 1 to December 25. This initiative inspires participants to engage in meaningful service and fosters a spirit of generosity and goodwill throughout the holiday season.

As the #LightTheWorld 2024 campaign continues, the Church invites everyone to join in spreading kindness, reminding all that even small acts of generosity can make a significant impact on the world.
