Former Black Stars coach, James Kwasi Appiah, has hinted at a possible return to the senior national team despite currently being contracted with Sudan.
The 64-year-old tactician, who has had two previous stints as head coach of Ghana’s national team (2012–2014 and 2017–2020), did not rule out a third tenure when asked about the possibility.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Appiah stated, “You have to be professional. Whether you would do it or not, you have to keep it in mind because you never know what will happen. At the moment, I have a contract with Sudan, and I am working with them. As a professional, you don’t jump to conclusions because you never know what the future holds.”
Appiah’s name has resurfaced in discussions about potential replacements for current coach Otto Addo, as the Black Stars continue to face challenges.
Since he departed from the Black Stars role, Appiah has managed Kenpong Football Academy and taken up the head coach position with Sudan. Under his leadership, Sudan qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Ghana along the way.
While he remains focused on his current job, Appiah’s openness to future opportunities has fueled speculation about a possible return to the Ghanaian bench.
