President Elect John Mahama and President Nana Addo Unveils Transitional Teams for Seamless Power Handover

In a significant move to ensure a smooth transfer of power following the December 7, 2024, General Election, both President-elect John Dramani Mahama and outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have unveiled their respective Transition Teams.

President-elect John Mahama, on December 10, 2024, revealed the members of his 2024 Transition Team, which is tasked with overseeing the transfer of power. The team, composed of seasoned professionals from various fields, including finance, governance, and public administration, aims to maintain competence and efficiency during this critical period. Notable members include:

1. Julius Debrah – Co-Chairperson 

2. Johnson Asiedu Nketia – Member 

3. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey – Member 

4. Dr. Callistus Mahama – Member/Secretary to the Transition Team 

5. Dr. Valerie Sawyer – Member 

6. Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi – Member 

7. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson – Member 

8. Mahama Ayariga – Member 

9. Goosie Tanoh – Member 

10. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Member 

Additionally, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho has been appointed to the Transitional Advisory Council. The team will play a crucial role in facilitating cooperation between the incoming and outgoing governments to ensure a seamless political handover.

On the other hand, President Akufo-Addo has named 13 individuals to represent the outgoing administration on the Transition Team. These appointees, also announced under the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), are expected to guide the transfer of power with professionalism and transparency. Key officials in the team include:

– Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare – Chief of Staff and Co-Chairperson of the Transition Team

– Godfred Yeboah Dame – Attorney-General 

– Mr. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu – Minister for Parliamentary Affairs 

– Henry Quartey – Minister for the Interior 

– Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam – Minister for Finance 

– Mr. Dominic Nitiwul – Minister for Defence 

– Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey – Minister for Foreign Affairs 

– Mr. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah – Minister for Local Government 

– Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah – Minister for National Security 

Other appointees include:

– Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh – Head of Civil Service 

– Dr. Nana Ato Arthur – Head of Local Government Service 

– Mr. Edward Asomani – National Security Coordinator 

– Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari – Secretary to the Cabinet 

The formal inauguration of the Transition Teams will take place on December 11, 2024, after a meeting between the outgoing President and the President-elect. Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, has been appointed to the Advisory Council, alongside the current Speaker, Mr. Alban Bagbin, who will serve as Chairperson of the Council.

Both the outgoing and incoming teams are committed to ensuring a smooth handover, reinforcing Ghana’s democratic reputation and setting the stage for the new administration’s effective start.
